
Women's Tennis Trumps Purple Aces

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After spotting their opponents by losing all three doubles matches, the University of Louisville women's tennis team battled back to beat Evansville 5-2 at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"I was very pleased that we rebounded with some gritty play after not playing the doubles well," said Meg Peavy, U of L head coach. "We had to win, no one gave us any of the matches."
No. 1 singles player Melisa San Martin battled to a three set win, beating Brandee Foxx 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. and Julie Penn, who has been battling injuries all year, rolled over Brooke Hoener 6-3, 6-1. Mariana Torres at No .4 also gutted out a three set win after splitting with Natalie Tessier 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. Paige Eber won No. 5 singles with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Erica Bass. And freshman Kelly Taylor handled Liz Hedde easily at No. 6, winniong 6-0, 6-1.
"It was so good for our kids to get some singles success going, " said Peavy. "Now we need to work on turning the corner in doubles."
