Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"We did not do a good job guarding (Chris) Young. He was 6-of-7 from three-point range (in the first half) but we did much better in the second half. We did a good job on the press but we had 10 turnovers on our fast break. I knew John Pelphrey would be a really good coach. He knew there was only one way to win tonight and he did a wonderful job today."
"We made some adjustments and we made some switches. Some of our rotations we did not do a good job on. We did a good job executing offensively. We're not great but when you aspire to be, you'll get better. I'm happy our basketball team got a victory."
"Reece (Gaines) has to get focused more on defense. It's not when he has the ball but when he is without it. He had a good game. All the guys played well and when I watch the film, I'll be pleased with their execution. We won because we defended the three, especially in the second half and forced more turnovers."
South Alabama Coach John Pelphrey
"I told our team for two days with both styles of play being fast, it was going to be a fun game to play. It forced you to make plays and we worked on that this week. Our three main things going into the game were to attack, show a little toughness in extended periods of time and have fun. We did the first two and I think some had some fun. I didn't think we played well in a lot of areas but our guys really competed. I was pleased with how hard they played."
"If Coach (Pitino) didn't say a word, I knew the way he felt about me. He's special and I'm very appreciative and blessed to have the chance to play for him three years and it's great to be able to call him anytime."
