Field Hockey Defeats Stanford 2-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Stanford 2-0 Thursday at Trager Stadium.
As the two teams battled under stifling heat and humidity, Susan Sattazahn connected on a pass from Danielle Barr at the 26:52 mark to put the Cardinals on the board. Louisville took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Joanie Frame scored an unassisted goal to give U of L a 2-0 advantage with 21:59 remaining in the game..
Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey notched her second consecutive shutout, and collected one save. Stanford goalkeeper Rebecca Shapiro stopped eight for the Cardinal and allowed two goals. Stanford falls to 2-4 on the season.
"I am so pleased that we were able to withstand the weather conditions and step up to play the game we wanted to play," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "Stanford has a great team and this was a quality win for us."
Louisville (2-1) will host Virginia Commonwealth, No. 8 Michigan State and Duke in a tournament Saturday and Sunday. The Cards will play VCU Saturday at noon at Trager Stadium.
