Field Hockey Tops Saint Louis

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Saint Louis 6-0 in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Monday.
The Cardinals opened the scoring nine minutes into the game when freshman Kimberly Hughes scored her first collegiate goal, connecting on a penalty corner with assists from junior Pip Sanders and freshman Olivia Netzler. Junior Susan Sattazahn netted a feed from Hughes to put the Cards up 2-0 at the 18:09 mark in the first half. Sophomore Elisa Eshelman scored with just over four minutes left to play in the first half to give Louisville a 3-0 halftime lead.
Netzler recorded her first career goal on Hughes' assist at the 48:17 mark in the second half to put the Cards ahead 4-0. Sophomore Shannon Kemp added an unassisted goal with four minutes left to play to give Louisville a 5-0 lead. Sanders capped off the scoring when she nailed a penalty stroke a minute later to give U of L the 6-0 win.
Louisville goalkeeper sophomore Christy Hershey got the shutout, collecting three saves. Saint Louis goalkeeper, Erin Linehan, had five saves in the game. The Billikens fall to 0-3.
U of L (1-1) will play host to Stanford on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Trager Stadium at 4 p.m.
