Women's Tennis Loses to Middle Tennessee

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The U of L women's tennis team lost to Middle Tennessee 6-1 Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders took the doubles point to begin the match as Michaela Gridlin and Tanja Buchheim teamed to defeat Julie Penn and Melisa San Martin 8-4 at No.2 and Carien Venter and Inge Weirich defeated Paige Eber and Mariana Torres 8-3 at No. 3. Louisville's Katie McLaughlin and Kelly Whitler edged Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell 9-7 at the top seed.
In singles action, Kruse defeated McLaughlin 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Middle Tennessee's Weirich, Gridling, Venter and Niger Kaur each recorded wins at Nos. 3-6 respectively. U of L's only singles point came from Penn, as she defeated Buccheim 6-1, 6-1 at the two-spot.
Middle Tennessee improves to 4-8 on the season.
Louisville (4-11) will travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. March 11, where they will play UC Sata Barbara and Long Beach State on March 13.
