Women's Golf Improves to Sixth In Waterlefe Finale

The University of Louisville women's golf team shot a 312, 310, 322-944 to tie for sixth place a the Waterlefe-USF Invitational at the Waterlefe Golf & River Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Northwestern outdueled the 16-team field to win the team competition. For the second straight year, the host USF Bulls placed second in the Invitational. The Wildcats shot a 290, 305, 301-896 to edge the Bulls by seven strokes.
Michelle Simpson of Florida International held her lead among individuals and took medalist honors with a 54-hole three-over par 219, three shots ahead of Emil Gilley of Northwestern and Sharon O'Neill of Campbell. Northwestern took a three-shot lead over Campbell and a six-shot lead over USF into the final round and was able to add one more shot to its lead over USF, while Campbell fell back to third place. While rain played a factor in Monday's 36 holes, it stayed dry throughout today's final 18, although gusty winds were prevalent as the day progressed. All 89 golfers shot over par in both the final round and over the entire 54 holes.
Leading Louisville was Katherine Mowat, who finished 15th with a 75, 80, 75-230. She was followed by Cindy Pasechnik's 77, 77, 81 for 29th. Alison Wright and Morgan Hapney tied for 47th with 241 each. Jessica Kell shot 89, 78, 84-251.
