
Field Hockey Defeats Miami 4-0 in MAC Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Miami University 4-0 Friday in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Championship at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 14 in the NCAA and National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings.
The Cardinals got on the board nine minutes into the first half, when Kim Hughes connected on a penalty corner with assists from Pip Sanders and Olivia Netzler. Louisville took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Sanders took a feed from Sarah Baum to put the Cards ahead 2-0 at the 1:07 mark in the second half. Seven minutes later Joanie Frame scored on another dish from Netzler to give Louisville a 3-0 lead. U of L's Keri Beckhorn capped off the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 14:53 mark to give her team the 4-0 win.
Louisville outshot Miami 29-3 and had a 16-1 penalty corner advantage. Sanders finished the game with a goal and an assist, while Netzler recorded two assists for the Cardinals.
U of L goalkeeper Christy Hershey recorded two saves en route to her eighth shutout of the year. Miami goalie Marie Vaughn collected 16 stops for the RedHawks. Miami falls to 2-19.
Louisville (16-4) advances to the semifinals, where they will face No. 2 seeded Kent State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Trager Stadium. The Golden Flashes are ranked No. 9 in the NCAA poll and No. 12 in the NFHCA rankings.
