Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"It's very difficult for a team (South Alabama) that has eight new players in an environment with 20,000 people and it's a difficult place to play. They are going to gain from this. We looked at what was going on in college basketball and unranked teams getting beat so our players were ready and our players were watching every possession of the game."
"We were on our toes. We don't run our plays real well but when you get that much effort, as a coach you have to be pleased. We did what we had to tonight and now we play a team (Oregon) we lost to by 25 at home last season."
(on the team's improvement) "We are playing hard but I don't think we have great vision of the ball. It was much better tonight because of their inexperience. I'd say a 50-point victory is progress. It was 10-out-of-10 on effort. Guys have a great attitude and there is no selfishness."
(on Reece Gaines playing four minutes in the first half) "He had two fouls and I just wanted to get those young guys minutes and not be so concerned about Reece's minutes. You have to get your inexperienced players some (playing) time. If the game was close, he would have played more. We need the experience because we are going on the road to play a team that beat us by 25 points last year and Reece has the experience."
South Alabama Head Coach Bob Weltlich
"We obviously didn't respond very well. We played scared. Rick (Pitino) has his kids playing at a very high level. They have a good team."
