Louisville, Ky. - Candace Jackson, a 6-1 forward from West Palm Beach, Fla., Shakita Martin, 6-1 forward from Memphis, Tenn., Connie Neal, a 5-11 guard from Male High School in Louisville and Marcia Alvarado, a 5-8 guard from Central Florida Community College have each signed a national letter-of-intent to continue their basketball playing careers at the University of Louisville next season.
Jackson averaged 21.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and eight assists last season for Palm Beach Lakes High School.
"Candace is a strong wing player that has the ability to shoot the three or post up on smaller guards," said head coach Martin Clapp. "She attended our elite camp this past summer and really impressed the coaching staff with her versatility."
Martin averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks per game as a junior at Kirby High School. Martin was also named all-state honorable mention in Tennessee last year.
"Shakita is a great athlete that can really get the ball to the basket," said Clapp. "She will give us the ability to really extend our defense. She has a good medium range jumper and can play all three guard positions."
Neal averaged 16 points last season for Male High School. She earned honorable-mention all-state honors by the Courier-Journal.
"Connie brings us the long range three that we are losing with our senior class," Clapp said. "She attended our elite camp and was the best guard at camp. She plays the point and the wing in high school but will be used at the shooting guard here at Louisville."
Alvarado is averaging 15 points and four assists for Central Florida Community College. She has helped guide Central Florida CC to a 4-0 record so far this season.
"We are looking forward to Marcia joining us again," said Clapp. "She will come back with a lot of playing experience from one of the top junior colleges in the nation. We will look to her to shooting abilities to help fill the spots left by graduation next season."
