
Field Hockey Tops Appalachian State 4-0

The Cardinals broke a scoreless tie when Susan Sattazahn nailed a pass from Pip Sanders to give U of L a 1-0 lead with 11:05 remaining in the first half. Louisville scored a second time off the stick of Kim Hughes, increasing the Cardinal lead to 2-0 with under two minutes left in the half. Sanders provided the assist. Both first half goals were results of penalty corners.
In the second half, the Cardinals increased their lead to 3-0 when Sattazahn sent a cross in front of Mountaineers cage, where Joanie Frame connected on a diving shot from the far side of the goal with 11:10 on the clock. Frame scored again with five minute remaining in the game, this time off of a dish from Sarah Baum for the 4-0 win.
Louisville shut out Appalachian State's offense, outshooting the Mountaineers 22-0. The Cards held an 18-2 penalty corner advantage. U of L goalkeepers Christy Hershey and Janina Perna did not have to make a save, as the Cardinals recorded their eighth shutout of the season.
APSU goalkeepers Malia Swieconek and Amy Sarno combined for nine saves, each allowing two goals.
Louisville improves to 15-4 (7-3 MAC) on the season. Appalachian State drops to 6-11 (3-3 NorPac).
U of L will host the 2001 MAC Field Hockey Championship Nov. 2-4 at Trager Stadium. Pairings for the tournament will be available Sunday, Oct. 28.
