Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated East Carolina 1-0 Thursday night in Cardinal Park. The Cards improve to 5-7-1 on the season.
"It was good to get our first conference win," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "ECU is a stubborn team and they made it difficult. I am please with the win and I was happy to see George score because he has had a tough year."
The first half remained scoreless as the Cards outshot the Pirates 7-0 in the first half.
Senior forward George Zabaneh took a punt from goalkeeper Jeremy Morales and broke free of two ECU defenders to score in the 79th minute of play. Zabaneh returned to action after suffering his second concussion of the season and missing the last two games. He suffered from dizziness at times and moved in and out of the lineup.
Louisville keeper Morales collected two big saves in the second half to register his third shutout of the season.
The Cards will host Cincinnati Wednesday Oct. 24 in Cardinal Park at 7:30 p.m.
