
Field Hockey Edges Ball State 3-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The ninth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Mid-American Conference opponent, Ball State 3-2 in a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Trager Stadium on Saturday. The winning goal came off the stick of junior forward Keri Beckhorn as U of L was playing out a penalty corner after the expiration of regulation play.
Ball State's Allison Haynes put her team in front 1-0, scoring off an assist from teammate Monika Rhode at 28:42 minute mark of the first half. Ball State held the 1-0 lead at halftime.
BSU's Heather Weinhold netted an unassisted goal 8:53 into the second half, padding their lead to 2-0 over Louisville.
With 7:05 remaining, the Cards began their comeback on an unassisted goal by Susan Sattazahn. Danielle Barr tied the game at 2-2, when she nailed a penalty stroke with 1:53 left to play.
The third and final goal was scored off of a penalty corner that was awarded in the closing seconds of the game. After a furious scramble in front of the Ball State cage Beckhorn scored the game-winner.
Louisville outshot Ball State 12-3 and had a 9-3 penalty corner advantage in the second half.
Ball State drops to 4-9, (2-5 MAC) on the season.
Uof L (13-2, 6-1) travels to Kent, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 19 to face 14th ranked Kent State at 2:00 p.m. They will face No. 12 Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m. in Athens, Ohio.
