Women's Tennis Falls to UT-Chattanooga

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team lost to UT-Chattanooga 5-2 at Vanderbilt on Saturday. Freshman Mariana Torres was the only Louisville player to claim a singles point as she defeated Lauren Snipes 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot. Senior Kelly Whitler went to three sets before falling 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) to UT-Chattanooga's Kangstefer at the No. 3 spot. Freshman Paige Eber also lost a three-set heartbreaker at No. 5 when Saskia van Velze outlasted her 7-6(4), 5-7, 7-6 (4).
Louisville won the doubles point when Katie McLaughlin and Whitler teamed to defeat Daniela Greco and Hangstefer 8-4 at the No. 1 seed and Julie Penn and Eber beat UT-Chattanooga's Cynthia Oulevay and Catherine Allen 8-6 at the No. 2 spot.
The Cards (2-2) will play their first home match on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at 10:00 a.m. when the play Tennessee Tech.
