Women's Tennis Loses to Tennessee Tech

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell to visiting Tennessee Tech 5-2 on Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Tennessee Tech claimed the doubles point when Lupita Hernandez and Karmelina Rivera defeated Katie McLaughlin and Kelly Whitler 8-5 at the top seed, and Anastassia Mirnova and Anita Obando won over Julie Penn and Paige Eber at 8-5 at the No. 2 seed. Louisville's Kelly Kiehna and Mariana Torres beat Louise Holmvik and Luciana Tamburini 8-4 at No. 3 doubles

In singles action, Penn notched a point for the Cards with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Tamburini at the two spot and Torres scored her second consecutive dual match win at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Holmvik. Louisville's Whitler fell in three sets to Rivera at the No. 3 seed 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Tennessee Tech's Hernandez defeated McLaughlin at the top seed 6-2, 6-0, Mirnova won over Kiehna at the No. 4 seed 6-3, 6-3 and Obando beat Eber 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5.

U of L (2-3) will go on the road to face No. 32 Kentucky on Friday, Jan. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
