Field Hockey falls to Connecticut in Overtime

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Louisville field hockey team lost to the University of Connecticut 2-1 in overtime in the finals of the IKON Husky Classic.
Louisville broke a scoreless game when sophomore Keri Beckhorn connected on an assist from Jennifer Welgosh with 6:13 remaining in the first half to give the Cardinals a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Huskies tied the game just under seven minutes into the second half when Amy Marland scored on an assist by All-American Laura Klein. With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the teams went to a sudden-victory overtime. Connecticut's Megan Ware scored the game-winner after 84 minutes of play with just 16 seconds remaining in overtime.
Louisville goalkeeper freshman Christy Hershey, played the entire 84 minutes and collected 23 saves. She was named to the All-Tournament team, taking home a Most Outstanding Player Award.
Connecticut (3-1) took the championship trophy in the IKON Husky Classic.
The Cardinals (2-2) will play their home opener when they face Saint Louis on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
