Field Hockey Defeats Iowa in Season Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Louisville field hockey team opened the 2000 season with a 2-1 win over fifth-ranked Iowa, on Saturday in the Hawkeye Invitational.
After playing scoreless first half, the Hawkeyes' Susan Gibson scored with 14:38 remaining in the game.
Louisville tied the game two minutes later, when Danielle Barr scored on a penalty corner with assists by Keri Beckhorn and Pip Sanders.
Beckhorn scored the game-winning goal on another penalty corner with 2:47 remaining the contest.
Louisville goalkeeper freshman Christy Hershey collected eight saves in her first collegiate start.
The Cardinals (1-0) will face Boston University (1-0) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the tournament championship.
