
Field Hockey Defeats Villanova

EVANSTON, Ill. - EVANSTON, Ill. -- The University of Louisville field hockey team edged Villanova 3-2 on Saturday at Northwestern.
The Cards scored early, when Lainey Habeeb connected on a shot from Keri Beckhorn to put U of L on the board just two minutes into the game. Beckhorn netted an unassisted goal five minutes later, giving Louisville a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats struck with 12:18 remaining in the first half, when Lauren McCarthy connected on a penalty corner to pull within one. McCarthy evened the score on another penalty corner just three minutes later for a halftime score of 2-2.
Villanova threatened midway through the second half when they were awarded a penalty stroke. Louisville freshman goalie Christy Hershey stopped the shot, preventing the Wildcats from taking the lead.
The Cardinals were awarded a penalty stroke just two minutes later. Pip Sanders nailed the shot for the game-winner, giving the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.
Hershey played a complete game, allowing two goals and recording five saves.
The Cards (4-2) will play host Northwestern on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
