LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former Colorado State standout linebacker Nate Kvamme (pronounced KWA-mee) has earned the Western Athletic Conference's prestigious Stan Bates Award for the 1998-99 academic year. Kvamme currently serves as a graduate assistant in the University of Louisville Football Video Office.
The WAC's Stan Bates Award is given annually to the conference's top senior male and female student-athletes. Named in honor of the former WAC commissioner, the award reflects the recipients' athletic and academic accomplishments.
"I had the privilege of watching Nate early in his career at Colorado State and am pleased he has been awarded for his accomplishments," said Cardinal athletic director Tom Jurich who served in the same capacity at CSU. "I know (head football coach) John L. (Smith) is thrilled to add Nate to his tremendous staff."
A native of Windsor, Colo., Kvamme earned all-WAC recognition in all four of his collegiate seasons for the Rams and was the preseason choice for the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 1998. Kvamme was named first-team all-league following his junior and senior years to go with second team honors in his first two campaigns. He was a three-time captain who guided the Rams to a pair of WAC titles and Holiday Bowl appearances.
Kvamme earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in May of 1999 graduating with a grade point average of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale).
Kvamme was a four-time all-WAC academic honoree as well as earning Academic All-American on two occasions. He also is a member of Golden Key and Tau Beta Pi National Honor Societies.
During his four years at CSU, Kvamme was actively involved in the Rams Group Smart Community Outreach Program and volunteered with the Cub Scouts and D.A.R.E. programs.
