
Women's Basketball Falls to Oakland 76-71

Lincoln, Neb. - The Louisville Cardinals fell to 0-2 on the season, losing to Oakland 76-71 in the consolation game of the Nebraska Time Warner Cable Classic.
Louisville led most of the second half but Oakland stayed in the game at the free throw line. With 10 minutes left in the game Oakland's Katie Wolfe started on a 17 point rally to put the Golden Grizzlies ahead.
Oakland scored 17 of their 48 points at the free throw line, including their last eight points. Wolfe led Oakland with 35 points, including 24 in the second half.
Louisville's Marju Sober led the Cardinals with a career-high 21 points. Four other Cardinals added double-figures, Sara Nord, Kara Kessans, Shanta Bowens and Shamika Ingram all added 10 points apiece but it was not enough.
Louisville ended the game shooting 39.7 percent from the field and outrebounded the Grizzlies 42-39.
The Cardinals started out sluggish in the opening half, exchanging the lead eight times. In the final two minutes of the half Louisville pulled out a 13-4 run behind two three-pointers from Sober and one three-pointer from Kessans. Sober finished the half, shattering her career-high with 15 points.
Louisville went into the lockerroom with a 41-28 lead. The Cardinals broke out of the shooting slump from Friday, hitting 50 percent from the field in the first half and outrebounding the Grizzlies 20-17.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Nov. 26 against Texas in the Torneo de Basquetbol in Cancun, Mexico.
