
Men's Basketball Opens with Win Over Hawaii, 86-71

HONOLULU (AP) - Marques Maybin scored 25 points as Louisville opened the season Friday night with an 86-71 victory over Hawaii.
The Cardinals, warming up for the Maui Invitational next week, also got double-digit scoring from four other players with Luke Whitehead getting 13, Rashad Brooks 12, Reece Gaines 11 and Ellis Myles 10.
Louisville fell behind 28-21, before a 21-2 run over an eight-minute span late in the first half helped put the game away. During the streak, Maybin and Myles each had six points, and Gaines and Brooks each added five.
A 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Cardinals a 47-34 halftime lead and they never looked back, building leads up to 17 points in the second half.
The Warriors, also playing their first game of the season, managed to pull within 10 twice, but that was it. Troy Ostler led Hawaii with 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Pedrag Savovic added 20 points.
Maybin shot 9-for-17 from the field, including 5-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Hawaii dominated in rebounds, 41-30 - including 16 offensive
