
Field Hockey Shuts Out Appalachian State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Appalachian State 3-0 on Sunday at Trager Stadium.
The Cards jumped on the board early in the first half when sophomore Pip Sanders scored an unassisted goal on a penalty corner for a 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Louisville sophomore Susan Sattazahn added an insurance goal when she connected on a Lainey Habeeb assist to give the Cards a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Jennifer Welgosh scored with 25:39 remaining in the second half to give the Cardinals the 3-0 win. Louisville outshot Appalachian State 20-5 and held a 7-2 penalty corner advantage in the game.
Louisville goalkeeper freshman Christy Hershey notched her fourth shutout of the season, collecting three saves in the effort. Appalachian State goalkeeper Malia Swieconek recorded 11 saves for the Mountaineers. Appalachian State falls to 4-9 (0-4 NorPac).
U of L (9-4, 3-2 MAC) is off to its best regular season record since 1979. The Cardinals will travel to Athens, Ohio to take on Ohio University on Friday, Oct. 13 at 3:00 p.m.
