
Field Hockey Registers Sixth Shutout

The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State 3-0 on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium. U of L honored seniors Jen Felker, Lainey Habeeb and Heather Slider before the game.
Habeeb opened the scoring for the Cardinals when she connected on a pass from sophomore Keri Beckhorn with 27:58 remaining in the first half. Sophomore Danielle Barr added an insurance goal when she scored on a penalty corner with assists from Beckhorn and Pip Sanders. Freshman Elisa Eshelman capped off the scoring for U of L off of another assist from Beckhorn with 1:34 left in the first half. Louisville took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Louisville Cardinals held Ball State to three shots in the first half and did not allow BSU to take a shot in the second half. U of L finished with a 17-3 shot advantage.
U of L's freshman goalkeeper Christy Hershey did not have to make a save en route to recording her sixth shutout of the season. Ball State's goalie Susan McDowell played the first half and collected seven saves, Nina Gruen was in the goal in the second half and had two saves. The BSU Cardinals fall to 5-15 (1-9).
"We've had some very intense practices these last two weeks, and our hard work is really starting to pay off on game day," said Louisville head coach Pam Bustin. "Hopefully we can take this momentum into the MAC tournament."
U of L finishes the regular season with a school record 13 wins. The Cards (13-7, 5-5) will travel to Athens, Ohio for the MAC tournament Nov. 3-5 at Ohio University.
