Boosters, Alumni & Fans
NCAA Guidelines
It is the University of Louisville’s responsibility for the “conduct of its intercollegiate athletics program” which includes the monitoring of any UofL booster or athletics representative. A UofL booster or athletics representative is any person or entity who has promoted the University of Louisville athletics department, made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization, assisted in the recruitment of prospects, provided financial assistance to current student-athletes or their families, or otherwise assisted in the promotion of the University of Louisville athletics department or sports program.
Some examples of boosters at the University of Louisville would include UofL students, employees, alumni, donors and season ticket members.

Five Things a Booster Should Know
- ASK BEFORE YOU ACT! If you are not sure if your conduct will constitute a violation of NCAA rules, call the Office of Athletic Compliance.
- LEAVE THE RECRUITING TO THE COACHES! Boosters are prohibited from making in-person recruiting contacts, whether on or off-campus, and cannot have communication with a prospect or the prospect’s family (whether in-person or on social media) for recruiting purposes.
- ALUMNI/BOOSTER EVENTS can violate recruiting regulations if prospects are in attendance. If you are arranging or attending alumni or booster events, do not bring or invite prospects, and explain to parents the importance of prospect-age students not attending.
- EXTRA BENEFITS are any special arrangements by an institutional employee or representative of athletics interest to provide a currently enrolled student-athlete, prospect or their parents, relatives, or friends a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA rules or which is not available to all students in general.
- USE OF A STUDENT-ATHLETE'S NIL is permitted provided there is a written agreement between the student-athlete and the individual/organization. The agreement cannot include a pay-for-play clause or recruiting inducement and compensation can only be provided for work performed.
