Nic Cardwell came to the University of Louisville in January of 2019.

Cardwell spent the 2017-18 seasons at Appalachian State under Scott Satterfield, serving as an offensive quality control coach in 2017 before being promoted to tight ends coach for the 2018 season.

A former player at Appalachian State, Cardwell did three different stints at his alma mater. Cardwell coached the tight ends in 2008, returned to Boone as an assistant director of strength and conditioning in 2011 and mentored tight ends again in 2012. He worked with the Mountaineers' tight ends as a graduate assistant from 2013-14.

Cardwell also worked two seasons (2015-16) as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at North Greenville University.

As a player, Cardwell played tight end on three FCS national championship teams at Appalachian State from 2004-07. Four of his nine career receptions went for touchdowns, including three in the FCS playoffs.

Cardwell graduated from Appalachian State in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
