Current Student-Athletes
Academic Eligibility
To maintain eligibility for practice, competition and athletic financial aid, each student-athlete must meet several institutional, conference, and NCAA requirements. In general, student athletes must:
Â
- Maintain full-time status: Â Student-athletes must be enrolled in a full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) program of studies to remain eligible. Â For this reason, student-athletes should be sure to consult their academic advisors before dropping a class.
- Fulfill credit-hour requirements: Â Student-athletes must satisfactorily complete at least:
- 24 credit hours before the start of their second year (or third semester) of collegiate enrollment; and
- 18 credit hours since the beginning of the previous fall term or since the beginning of ASU’s preceding regular two semesters (excluding summer); and
- 6 credit hours during the preceding semester, except for football student-athletes during the fall semester who must complete 9 credits.
- Fulfill percentage-of-degree requirements: Beginning with their third year (or fifth semester) of enrollment, student-athletes must have successfully completed a percentage of course requirements in their degree programs to remain eligible for that year. Those percentages are as follows: Â
- Third year (or fifth semester) – 40 percent (this equates to 48 credit hours for most programs at ASU);
- Fourth year (or seventh semester) – 60 percent (this equates to 72 credit hours for most programs at ASU); and
- Fifth year (or ninth semester) – 80 percent (this equates to 96 credit hours for most programs at ASU).
- Fulfill grade-point-average requirements: Student-athletes must meet the following GPA requirements:
- Competition eligibility:
- At least a 1.80 GPA for the third and fourth semesters (second year);
- At least a 1.90 GPA for the fifth and sixth semesters (third year); and
- At least a 2.00 GPA as they enter their seventh and eighth semesters (fourth year) and, if applicable, ninth and tenth semesters (fifth year).
- Competition eligibility:
b. Practice eligibility: At least a 1.60 GPA for scholarship student-athletes.
Amateurism and Employment
In order to maintain amateur status and remain eligible, you cannot receive any type of pay for play, either directly or indirectly. Please submit the appropriate form if you intend to be employed, provide a private lesson, compete in outside competition, or participate in a promotional activity. For basketball student-athletes, if you intend to compete in a summer league you must obtain written permission prior to participation in the league.Â

Sports Wagering
NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes from participating in sports wagering activities and from providing information to individuals involved in or associated with any type of sports wagering activities concerning intercollegiate, amateur or professional athletics competition. This includes but is not limited to prop bets, Super Bowl pools, March Madness brackets, and any other exchange of items that have a tangible value, such as cash, clothing, and/or meal. Sports wagering has the potential to undermine the integrity of sports contests and jeopardizes the well-being of student-athletes.

Transfer Portal
A student-athlete who wants to contact other schools regarding transferring must submit a notification of intent to transfer to the Office of Athletic Compliance. To be able to use the one-time transfer exception for immediate eligibility, student-athletes must complete the ARMS request to enter the transfer portal within the sport-specific transfer portal windows. The notification of transfer form is located in a student-athlete's ARMS Launch Workflow portal.
Once received, the Office of Athletic Compliance has two business days to add the student-athlete’s information into a national transfer database accessible by other college coaches. Until this process is complete it is impermissible for UofL student-athletes to communicate directly or indirectly (e.g., through former coaches) with other coaches.Â

Student-Athlete Time Management Plan
Per NCAA Regulations, each sport must develop a student-athlete time management plan to ensure, at a minimum, the following:
- Student-athletes are provided adequate notice of all CARA and RARA;
- Schedules for all CARA/RARA are developed through a collaborative process involving student-athletes, coaches and senior athletic department staff members; and
- Student-athletes are provided adequate notice of changes to previously established schedules for CARA/RARA.
Agents
Per NCAA Bylaw 12.3, a student-athlete will be ineligible if he or she ever agrees to be represented by an agent for the purpose of marketing athletics ability or reputation in that sport. Student-athletes are not permitted to accept money, transportation or other benefits from an agent. It is not permissible to sign a contract with an agent or agree verbally to be represented by an agent for the purpose of marketing athletics ability or reputation until after eligibility has expired.
Student-athletes are allowed to obtain professional representation (e.g. agent, attorney, marketing rep, etc.) for advice, contract representation and/or the marketing of their name, image, likeness (NIL).
Any question regarding agents should be directed to Lana Eagleton (lana@GoCards.com).
