He comes to Louisville after 10 seasons at New Mexico
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Head coach Jeff Walz is happy to announce the hiring of Mike Bradbury as an assistant coach to his staff. Bradbury brings 19 years of head coaching experience to the Louisville staff and most recently spent the past 10 seasons as the head coach at New Mexico.
"Adding Mike Bradbury to our staff is about bringing in a coach with a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game," said Walz. "He's been a head coach, he's navigated the challenges of building programs, and he understands what it takes to compete at a high level. That perspective is invaluable for our players and for our staff as we continue to push forward.
"Mike also brings a unique ability to connect with student-athletes and contribute in multiple areas—whether that's player development, scouting, or game planning. Having someone who has sat in the head chair gives us another strong voice in the room, and I'm confident his experience and work ethic will make our program better every single day."
"I'm really excited and grateful for the chance to join the staff at the University of Louisville and work with Jeff Walz," said Bradbury. "He's built such a strong program, and it's something I've always respected from the outside. I'm looking forward to learning from him and being part of a great culture. I can't wait to get started and help in any way I can."
During his time with the Lobos, Bradbury compiled a 202-112 overall record at New Mexico, including 114-64 in conference play, becoming just the second coach in program history to reach 100 wins. His Lobos teams were consistent contenders, posting six 20-win seasons, a program-tying 26 wins in 2021-22, and ranking among the Mountain West's top offenses, finishing top three in scoring in eight of nine seasons.
Named Mountain West Coach of the Year in 2023-24, Bradbury developed 20 All-Conference players and multiple award winners, including four Newcomers of the Year. His 2021-22 team set numerous program records, including three-pointers, assists, and points in conference play, while also producing a nine-game winning streak.
He led New Mexico to its first outright Mountain West regular season title in 2020-21 and three WNIT appearances in four years.
Before UNM, Bradbury built winning programs at Wright State and Morehead State. At Wright State, he posted five 20-win seasons in six years, including a 26-win NCAA Tournament season in 2013-14, and earned Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2014-15. At Morehead State, he went 50-44 in three seasons, highlighted by a 22-win campaign.
Bradbury also spent time as an assistant coach at Xavier (2002-06), Cincinnati (1996-02), VCU (1995-96), East Tennessee State (1994-95) and Chattanooga (1991-94).
