No. 13 Cardinals Set to Host Virginia Tech

Louisville has won six games in a row heading into Sunday’s matchup
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 13 Louisville women's basketball team (13-3, 3-0 ACC) will close out its two-game homestand on Sunday, January 4 when they host Virginia Tech (11-4, 1-2 ACC) at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals and Hokies are set to square off at 4 p.m. ET and it will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
The Cardinals are taking a six-game winning streak into Sunday's game and have been playing extremely well since the Thanksgiving holiday. Over the last 10 games, the Cards have averaged 87.5 points per game and have a +32.6 scoring margin in those games. They have scored 80 points or more in seven of those games and 90 or more points in five of those games. Louisville has dominated the glass as they have averaged 48.3 rebounds per game
and have a +15.7 rebounding margin over the last 10 games.
Head coach Jeff Walz comes into the game with 499 career wins and is one away from 500 for his career. He is the all-time winningest coach in women's basketball program history and would become the fourth head coach at the University of Louisville to win 500 career games (Denny Crum, Dan McDonnell, Sandy Pearsall). There are only six active head coaches in all of women's basketball to win 500 games or more at one school.
Imari Berry has been on fire lately for the Cardinals. After her first career double-double against No. 17/18 Tennessee before the break, Berry scored 11 points and led the team with nine rebounds in the win over SMU on Thursday. Over her last nine games, she is averaging 11.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
Tajianna Roberts has also played well for the Cardinals over the last few weeks. She has led the team in scoring in each of the last three games and has scored in double figures in each of the last four games. She has tied a career high with five assists in three of the last six games.

They opened conference play with a 70-54 defeat to Duke before beating Florida State 79-54 on the road before the Christmas break. The Hokies are coming off a 75-67 overtime loss at home to Miami this past Thursday. Redshirt sophomore guard Mackenzie Nelson leads the ACC and ranks sixth nationally with a 3.58 assist/turnover ratio. She also leads the ACC and ranks 10th nationally with 93 assists and then leads the ACC and ranks 13th in the NCAA with 6.6 assists per game. As a team, Virginia Tech is fourth in the league and 19th nationally with 5.3 blocks per game. Prior to the season, Virginia Tech was selected 10th in the ACC preseason poll that was voted on by the coaches and Blue Ribbon panel.

Last Meeting (Jan. 19, 2025) - The Louisville women's basketball team (13-6, 6-2 ACC) attempted to storm back in the fourth quarter but the comeback fell short as the Cards dropped to Virginia Tech (13-6, 4-3 ACC), 70-65, Sunday night at Cassell Coliseum. The Cardinals were down by 13 heading into the final quarter and got the deficit all the way down to one but were unable to come all the way back. Olivia Cochran led the Cards with 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Ja'Leah Williams had a team-best four assists to go with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Jayda Curry joined the pair in double figures with 13 points and three assists.
