Alex Svetanoff tallied a season-high eight saves, allowing one goal on a late penalty kick
DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 16 Duke on Friday night at Koskinen Stadium. Despite a season-high eight saves from Alex Svetanoff, the offense was unable to gain momentum, tallying just five total shots with only one on goal.
The Cardinals (5-2-1, 1-2-0 ACC) held the Blue Devils in check for more than 85 minutes before a late penalty provided the difference. Duke's Trevor Burns converted from the spot in the 86th minute for the only goal of the match.
Louisville generated five shots in the contest, led by Elijah Brijbasi with three attempts, including one on target. Nicholas Parham and Bilal Camara also recorded shots for the Cardinals.
Defensively, Svetanoff turned in another strong performance in goal to keep Louisville within striking distance against a Duke side that finished with 21 shots and 10 corner kicks.
The Cards will return to action a week from today in a home match against North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 3. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. ET on ACCNX and will celebrate Louisville's senior class in the annual senior night recognition.
