
Louisville selected as No. 7 Seed, Play No. 10 Nebraska in First Round

The Cardinals and Cornhuskers will tip off in Fort Worth, Texas
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's basketball team (21-10) will begin the 2025 NCAA Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas as they were selected as a No. 7 seed and will play in the Birmingham 3 Regional. They will open the tournament against No. 10 seed Nebraska Cornhuskers (21-11) in the first round on Friday, March 21. The official tip time will be 6 p.m ET and the game will be aired on ESPN.
This will be the 27th all-time appearance for the Cardinals in the NCAA Tournament and the 16th appearance in the 17 tournaments under head coach Jeff Walz. This is the 14th-straight tournament the Cardinals have played in and they are 44-26 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Since Walz arrived in 2007, the Cardinals are 40-15 in the tournament and have advanced to 12 Sweet 16's, eight Elite Eights, four Final Fours and have been in the championship game twice.
This is just the fourth time in program history that they will be the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament and the third time under Walz. The Cards were a No. 7 seed in their first ever NCAA appearance in the 1983 tournament. The Cards were also a No. 7 seed in back-to-back tournaments in 2011 and 2012. In the 2011 tournament, the Cardinals upset the No. 2 seed Xavier in Cincinnati to advance to the Sweet 16.
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools and Louisville holds a 3-1 advantage in the series. The Cards and Cornhuskers are 1-1 all-time in neutral site matchups and this will be the first time the two teams have faced off in the NCAA Tournament. The last time the two teams met was November 29, 2018, an 85-68 Louisville win at the KFC Yum! Center.
