The Cardinals Offense puts up 571 total yards, most since 2017
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team put on an offensive clinic, defeating Austin Peay 62-0 to open the 2024 season.
The Cardinals put up 571 total yards on the day, the most since recording 596 yards against Murray State in 2017.
Quarterback Tyler Shough shined in his debut for the Cardinals going 18-24 for 232 yards and four touchdowns.
Four different receivers found the endzone for Louisville, led by Jadon Thompson who recorded three catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cardinals also found success with the ground game rushing for 293 yards on the day, led by freshman Isaac Brown with 123 yards and a score on just 5 attempts.
Defensively, Louisville held the Governors to just 106 yards of offense highlighted by a forced fumble recovered by Ramon Puryear for a 22-yard touchdown. T.J. Capers secured the lone interception for the Cardinals, returning it for a 29-yard gain. The defense was paced by Ashton Gillotte with four tackles and a sack.
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm Said:
"Very proud of our football team today. You practice for a long time through the spring, summer and fall camp. You try to get through fall camp with as few injuries as possible, but you don't have as many live reps, so to get on the game field and execute pretty well not only in the first half but the second half with some backups was good to see. I thought we played hard to the end. We limited penalties as much as we could, we got some turnovers and didn't turn the ball over as well, so a lot of things to build on. I thought our guys came ready to play and did a good job finishing."
