Lauren Hartlage Records Top-5 Finish at PGA Championship
June 24, 2024 | Women's Golf
SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Former University of Louisville women's golfer Lauren Hartlage put together one of her best weekends as a professional on one of the biggest stages at the 2024 KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club. She played in the final group on Sunday and tallied a Top-5 finish when she placed tied for fifth overall at 3-under-par, 285.
"I had so much fun," Hartlage said. "Being in the last group in a major is something I've dreamed of, and even though I didn't play as well as I would've hoped to today, it was a great learning experience and I just had so much fun out there."
This was a career-best finish at a major for Hartlage as she missed the cut in her previous three major appearances on the tour. She was tied for 36th overall after the first round after she put together a 1-over-par 73. She really turned it on with back-to-back 69's on Friday and Saturday to put her tied for second overall and into the final grouping for Sunday's final round. Hartlage had seven birdies on Friday and three on Saturday to put her at 5-under-par and into the final grouping for Sunday's final round.
In the final round on Sunday, Hartlage got off to a great start with birdies at the second and fourth hole to get a tournament-best 7-under-par and was just one shot off the leader in Amy Yang. She ran into trouble on the seventh and eighth holes where she gave a few shots back but finished strong with a birdie on 17 to finish 2-over-par for the round. That birdie on 17 put her into a tied for fifth overall when play was concluded Sunday evening.
