LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville rowing team will head to Raleigh, N.C. for the 2024 ACC Championship which will be held Friday and Saturday at Lake Wheeler.
Â
The Cardinals' Varsity Eight earned the seven seed and will race out of lane three with Second Varsity Eight boat seeded sixth and starting in lane four. The Third Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four are seeded ninth and will race out of lane three.
"The team has had a great couple of weeks on the water and we really feel like we are set to have our best performances of the year," said UofL head coach Derek Copeland. "It is such a young group with only a handful of upperclassmen and it is exciting to see many of these athletes have so many first time experiences. We will keep dialing in every last item as we head into our Friday heats and we will keep cherishing these last few moments with our seniors."
The 2024 ACC Rowing Championship starts Friday, May 17 at 8:05 a.m. with the Third Varsity Eight, followed by the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four. There will be two heats of each event.
On Saturday, May 18, the Petite Final will be held prior to the Grand Final of each event with action set to begin at 8:05 a.m. The order of events includes the Third Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Four, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight.
"With being one of the few seniors this year, it has been so exciting to see the younger athletes grow exponentially throughout the season," said Izzy Hussey. "I look forward to seeing how we perform this weekend given all of the hard work this team has put into each and every practice."
Three ACC teams are ranked among the latest Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, with Syracuse leading the way at No. 10. Within the top 20 is Duke at No. 15 and Virginia at No. 16. Miami and Notre Dame are currently receiving votes.
ACC Network Extra coverage is available for both the prelims on Friday and the finals on Saturday. Admission is free for fans who plan to attend the championship.
