December 15, 2024 | Women's Basketball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's basketball team (6-5, 0-1 ACC) had a poor shooting outing as it dropped the ACC opener to No. 22/20 NC State (8-3, 1-0 ACC), 72-42, Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center.
The Cardinals struggled to get going from the floor in the first quarter, as they were just 3-for-20 (15 percent) from the field in the opening 10 minutes. They improved to 5-for-15 (33.3 percent) in the second quarter but NC State was lights out over the first half (16-for-31) and the Wolfpack took a 41-21 lead into the break.
Louisville struggled to get the shots to fall in the second half as they were 8-for-32 (25 percent) from the field. The Cardinals held NC State to 13-for-35 (37.1 percent) from the floor in the second half and forced 14 turnovers but it was not enough to chip away at the Wolfpack's lead.
The Cardinals forced NC State into 23 turnovers for the game after the Wolfpack entered the game averaging just 13.0 per game. It was the seventh time this season Louisville has forced 20 or more turnovers in a game as they lead the ACC with 20.6 turnovers forced per game heading into the matchup.
Louisville will head back on the road to finish off non-conference play next weekend as they travel down to Memphis. The Cardinals and Tigers will square off on Saturday, December 21, as it will be the final game for Louisville before the Christmas break. The game is set for a 5 p.m. ET tip and it will be broadcast on ESPNU.
