No. 25/22 Cardinals Head to Orlando for WBCA State Farm Showcase
November 23, 2024 | Women's Basketball
Louisville will square off with old conference foe South Florida on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 25/22 Louisville women's basketball team (3-2) is back out on the road for a Sunday clash with a former conference opponent. The Cardinals are heading south to Orlando, Florida for the WBCA State Farm Showcase and are set to face the South Florida Bulls (4-2) Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals and Bulls will square off from the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday and the game will be streamed on NBC Sports FAST. Fans can access that channel via Peacock or Roku streaming services. The game will also be broadcast on the radio locally in Louisville on 93.9-FM The Ville and 970-AM.
The Cardinals are coming off a high scoring output in their most recent win over Morehead State Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center. Louisville eclipsed the century mark for the first time this season and the 32nd time in program history in the 107-70 win over the Eagles. All 14 players scored for the Cards in the win, the first time in the Jeff Walz era that 14 different players scored in a game.
Freshman Imari Berry led the team in scoring for the second-straight game as she poured in a game-high 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting and was 5-for-8 from behind the arc. The five three-pointers were the most by a Louisville player this season and the most by a Louisville freshman since the 2020-21 season. The five three pointers was one shy of the single game record for a Louisville freshman. Berry is the second freshman to score 20-plus points in a game this season after Tajianna Roberts scored 21 in the opener against No. 5/6 UCLA in Paris.
Roberts continued her strong play this season with 11 points and hit three three-pointers against Morehead. She has scored in double figures in all five games this season, the only Louisville player to do so. She has knocked down three or more three-pointers in three of the five games this season.
A number of other freshmen also made impacts in the win over Morehead State. Isla Juffermans tallied her first double-digit scoring game of the season with 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting. Reagan Bender scored her first collegiate points when she knocked down a three-pointer in the second half. She and fellow freshman Izela Arenas both hit two three-pointers in the win. Redshirt freshman Eseosa Imafidon tied for the team lead with six rebounds to go with four points and three blocks in just six minutes of action.
The Cardinals as a team hit 16 three-pointers against Morehead State. It was the most threes they have hit in a game since November 6, 2018, when they knocked down 16 in the season-opening win over Western Kentucky. Louisville shot 62.9 percent from the floor, the highest field goal percentage in a game since Dec. 5, 2022, when they shot 66.2 percent in the win over SIUE.
