Nyla Harris Named to Leslie Award Watch List
November 01, 2024 | Women's Basketball
The award recognizes the top center in college basketball
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The preseason honors continue to come in for the Louisville Women's Basketball team as junior Nyla Harris was named to the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Friday. She is the third Louisville player to be named to a positional watch list after Jayda Curry and Olivia Cochran earned honors earlier this week.
Nyla Harris had a big jump from her freshman to sophomore year last year. After averaging 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a freshman, she increased both totals to 10.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Harris led the team with 6.6 rebounds, .563 field goal percentage and six double doubles last year. She was one of four players to average 10 points or more per game.
She had some of her best games against the top competition in conference play. Over eight ACC games last year against Top 25 teams, she averaged a team-best 14.4 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game and .620 field goal percentage (44-for-71). She scored a career-best 22 points against Syracuse and hauled in a career-high 15 rebounds against Florida State.
In March, the five finalists will be presented to Lisa Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Leslie Award are composed of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
