October 02, 2024 | General
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL Athletics is proud to partner with Mr. and Mrs. Bourbon and Russ Smith on the release of a limited-edition collector's bottle, benefitting the Cardinal Impact Fund, a critical advancement effort within the athletic department. "Louisville Gold" will debut early November and is designed to celebrate the rich tradition of Louisville Basketball.
Only 1200 bottles of the bourbon will be available featuring the Louisville Cardinal Bird wearing an MMBC style top hat. The almost 7-year-old bourbon is wheated with a toasted finish. The mash bill is 64% corn, 24% wheat and 12% malt barley. All bottles will be hand numbered and some will feature Smith's signature. The athletic department is coordinating other guest appearances and potential signings for the release in November. Bottles will retail for $199.99 and proceeds will go directly back to the Cardinal Impact Fund.
"This release is personal for me! Louisville is home, and the University means a great deal to me. We are excited to give back, and happy to work with the athletic department and the Cardinal Impact Fund! This will raise money that directly impacts the programs and athletes where I got my start," said Smith.
The exclusive collector's bottle will launch exclusively in Liquor Barn stores across Kentucky at the beginning of November along with limited release is some hotels, bars and restaurants. To get early access to these bottles, please visit the MMBC bar during any event in October at the KFC Yum! Center and scan the QR codes at the bar! MMBC announced a partnership with Top Tier Authentics (TTA) earlier this year that not only authenticates the bourbon via qr code in real time, but by scanning and claiming benefits, you are first in line for special releases, signed UofL merch, and tickets to other events at the Yum in addition to discounts at Liquor Barn.
"Russ Smith personifies Louisville Basketball with his creativity, unmatched work-ethic and resilience. We are thrilled to partner with he and Mr. & Mrs. Bourbon on this special collector's bottle for our fans," adds Lottie Stockwell, UofL's Sr Associate Athletic Director, External Relations. "The landscape of collegiate athletics is everchanging, and Russ's commitment to Louisville Athletics and our continued advancement is extraordinary."
Mr. and Mrs. Bourbon will open the permanent bar in the northwest corner of the concourse at the KFC Yum! Center on October 4th in conjunction with Louisville Live. There will also be a VIP Mr. and Mrs. Bourbon Lounge on the north baseline for the event.
