Miller and Gillotte Named Academic All-Americans
January 23, 2024 | Football, Academic Services
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville football players Eric Miller and Ashton Gillotte earned first team Academic All-America honors by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
Â
These are the first two Academic All-Americans since Ean Pfiefer earned honors after the 2019 season.
The two standout athletes were placed on the national ballot after they earned all-district recognition in May.
To be eligible for the initial district ballot, student-athletes must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 through the end of the 2023 fall semester, be at a minimum a sophomore academically and be a starter or key reserve on their respective team.
Â
A first-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and All-District selection, Miller graduated in December of 2021 with a degree in management. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten academic honoree, Miller was a National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society member. Miller earned a certificate from Louisville this fall and finished with a perfect mark in the distilled spirits program.
Miller started all 14 games for the Cardinals at right tackle and helped the Cardinals finish, reaching the ACC title game for the first time in school history. The transfer from Purdue played 998 snaps on the offensive line and allowed just two sacks in those 14 starts.
Gillotte earned All-ACC Academic honors following the 2022 season and has been a Red and Black Scholar three times for earning a 3.25 or higher grade point average. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in communications this past December. Â
Â
A second team All-American and first team All-ACC performer, Gillotte had a dominant junior campaign finishing the year with 11.0 sacks, which ranked in the top 10 nationally and 14.5 tackles for loss. A rising senior, Gillotte recorded 45 tackles, including seven in a win over Virginia.
