Cardinals Open Season with Doubleheader on Wednesday

UofL men’s tennis begins its season at home with matches against Xavier and Bellarmine
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team opens its season up at home on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Xavier (12 p.m.) and Bellarmine (5 p.m.) at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The pair of matches are just two of the Cardinals' 16 at home this season.
Louisville's roster this spring is a mixed bag of newcomers and returners. The Cardinals returned doubles All-American Natan Rodrigues as well as Etienne Donnet, who is most recently ranked No. 16 in the ITA Singles poll. Will Mayew, also ranked in the ITA Singles Top 60, along with Matthew Fung and Andre' Steinbach all return as well.
The Cardinals have six new faces, all freshmen, on the 11-man roster. New to the team are Miguel Avendaño, Evan Duggal, Russell Lokko, Kosuke Nakanishi, Piet Steveker and Enrique Peña. Peña was added to the roster mid-year and just arrived in The Ville in January.

Series Record: Louisville leads 22-0
Last Meeting: February 26, 2022 – Louisville won 4-0 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
Scouting the Muskateers: Xavier opened its season on Saturday with a 4-3 loss at Eastern Kentucky. Last season, the Muskateers finished 12-9, falling to Georgetown in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.

Series Record: Louisville leads 23-0
Last Meeting: January 18, 2023 – Louisville won 6-1 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
Scouting the Knights: Bellarmine opens its season with the Cardinals before hosting UIC on Friday. In 2023, the Knights finished 14-10 overall and lost their final three matches, including a in the ASUN tournament quarterfinals to Kennesaw State.
