
Cards Finish the Fall in 13th Place in the Learfield Cup Standings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville athletics department closed out the 2023 fall semester in 13th place in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division I standings released on Thursday.
Louisville totaled 244 points across its fall sports and is one of nine ACC schools ranked in the top 25, the most of any conference in the country. The Pac-12 Conference recorded five teams, the second-most nationally.
UofL accrued points in volleyball, field hockey, football, and men's soccer, with all four teams reaching their respective postseasons.
• Volleyball – Fifth, 83 points
• Field Hockey – Fifth, 65 points
• Football– 18th, 56 points
• Men's Soccer – 17th, 50 points
• Department – 25th, 186 points
Louisville volleyball put together another historic 2023 campaign, finishing the season with a 27-5 record, falling to Pitt in the Elite Eight. Louisville reached the Sweet Sixteen for the ninth time in program history.
UofL field hockey continued its run of success during the fall, turning in a 15-7 mark and earning its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Cardinals fell to Northwestern in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships.
Under first-year head coach Jeff Brohm, the Cardinals won ten games of the first time since the 2013 season and advanced to their first ACC title game, falling to Florida State. The Cards also made its first appearance in the Holiday Bowl.
Louisville men's soccer finished the season at 12-6-3. The Cards dropped a decision to West Virginia in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Louisville fell to eventual national champion Clemson in the semifinals of the ACC Championship.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
