Cardinals Hold On to Defeat Indiana, 21-14

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Louisville football team defeated Indiana, 21-14, on Saturday to move to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2016. This marks the first win for the Cardinals in the series against the Hoosiers, who move to 1-2 on the season.
The first half was all Louisville with an 85-yard touchdown reception by Jamari Thrash to open up the scoring. Thrash recorded 158 receiving yards today, marking his fifth 100-yard receiving game and the first of his Louisville career.
Jawhar Jordan led the Cards in rushing yard with 113, the sixth 100-yard rushing game of his Louisville career.
Quarterback Jack Plummer threw for 238 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Cards led the Hoosiers 21-0 going into the locker room at half. However, Indiana came out fighting with two touchdowns in the third quarter. Louisville was able to hold on and win the game after a huge fourth-and-goal stop late in the fourth quarter.
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm Said:
"Well, it's great to come out with a win. I thought our guys competed for four quarters. It was touch-and-go in the second half but we found a way to toughen it up when we needed to and get a great stop. Tremendous job by our defense and our coaches to have a good plan on the goal line. Then the minus half yard to running naked on first and one to take a little chance and put it on our quarterback to get outside. He did a good job running to get the first down and then we ran and got some first downs when we needed to. To me, that's a sign of a pretty decent football team. We have to build off of that. Of course we'd love to play better in the second half, I think we talked about it a lot. The onside kick was coming at the start of the second half, so it was talked about a lot. Obviously, planning wasn't good enough. So we have to do a better job of that. We did recognize that was probably coming so that was disappointing. They played hard until the end, so I'm proud of them. As we tell our team every week, every game is going to be like Georgia Tech. Now every game is going to be like Georgia Tech and Indiana. That's how it's got to be. You have to be able to be tough enough to hang in there and make more plays than they do and figure out a way to score more points than they do. It's good to get out with a win."
