The Cardinals were one of 95 teams to finish with a 3.25 GPA or higher last season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of women's basketball had plenty of success on and off the court during the 2022-23 season. The Cardinals advanced to their fifth-straight Elite Eight, the only school in the country to make each of the last five Elite Eights. They also had strong success in the classroom as they finished with a 3.326 GPA for the 2022-23 season.
The Cardinals had the fourth highest GPA in the ACC last season and were one of only four ACC schools to have a 3.25 team GPA or higher. Louisville was one of six ACC schools to finish the season with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Across the country, Louisville was one of 95 schools that finished with a 3.25 team GPA or higher last season.
Academic success is no stranger to head coach Jeff Walz as the Cardinals have had 18-straight semesters with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. This was the second-straight season the Cardinals have had a 3.25 team GPA or higher.
For the 2022-23 season, the Cardinals had four players make the Dean's Scholar List with a 4.0 GPA in either the fall or spring semester. Merissah Russell had a 4.0 GPA in each semester last season. Five players made the Dean's List in the fall and three made it in the spring semester with a 3.5 GPA or higher. 10 players in the fall and nine players in the spring were Red & Black Scholar-Athletes with a 3.25 GPA or higher.
The Cardinals also had a CoSIDA Academic All-American this past season for the first time since Dana Evans in the 2020-21 season. Evans was also named the ACC Kay Yow Scholar-Athlete of the Year that season and she was the third Louisville athlete to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year during Walz's tenure.
The 2023-24 Cardinals are coming of a gold medal at the 2023 GLOBL JAM tournament held in Toronto this past July. The team will report back to campus in a few weeks as the fall semester will begin later in August.
