Louisville to Face Ole Miss in ACC/SEC Challenge
June 28, 2023 | Women's Basketball
This will be a rematch of the Sweet 16 from last season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville will face off with Ole Miss in Oxford on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 9:15 p.m. ET in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday.
The matchup will be a rematch from last year's Sweet 16 when the Cardinals and Rebels faced off in Seattle. Louisville defeated Ole Miss, 72-62, to advance to the Elite Eight for the fifth-straight season. They are the only program in the country to advance to each of the last five Elite Eights.
This will be just the second all-time meeting between the Cardinals and the Rebels after the first meeting in the Sweet 16. Last season, the Cardinals were 2-0 against the SEC after the win over Ole Miss and a road win over Kentucky.
Under head coach Jeff Walz, the Cardinals are 21-11 against the SEC in his 16 seasons. The Cardinals have had at least one win against an SEC opponent in 11 of the 15 seasons they have faced an SEC team (did not play an SEC team in 2020-21).
Television and streaming coverage will be announced at a later date. This will be the first season of the ACC/SEC Challenge after the ACC/B1G Challenge ended this past season. The ACC was 11-1-3 all-time against the B1G in that event.
The Cardinals will be in action in a few weeks as they travel to Toronto for the 2023 GLOBL JAM. Louisville is the United States representative and will face national teams from Canada, Puerto Rico and Africa during the tournament. The Cards will face all three teams in pool play starting on Wednesday, July 12 and the medal games will be held on Sunday, July 16. TV designation for GLOBL JAM will be announced prior to the event.
