Gordon, Roby, Otis earn NFCA All-Southeast Region honors
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville placed three student-athletes on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Teams as announced by the organization today. Sarah Gordon and Taylor Roby have been named to the second team and Korbe Otis is a third team selection.
Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2023 NFCA Division I All-America squads.Â
This is the first time Louisville has placed three players on the NFCA All-Southeast Region teams and marks the most overall regional selections since 2012 when five Cardinals were named to the Great Lakes Region teams
Â
Gordon earns her first all-Region honor on the heels of being named the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year. The catcher from Lexington, S.C. stands second on the team with a .388 batting average, 48 RBIs and 39 runs scored and is a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen bases. She has belted out 10 home runs along with 12 doubles and two triples while registering a .667 slugging percentage. Â
• The All-ACC first team and all-freshmen selection was also named to the TUCCI/NFCA National Freshman of the Year Top 25 List. Earlier this season, she was tabbed the ACC Player of the Week and NFCA Division I Player of the Week. She becomes the first Louisville freshman to earn regional recognition since 2016 when Megan Hensley was named to the All-Southeast Region second team.
Â
Otis (Littleton, Colo.) leads the Cardinals with a .406 batting average and paces the ACC with 62 runs scored and seven triples and is a perfect 21-for-21 in stolen bases. The sophomore centerfielder and 2023 All-ACC first team selection put together a school-record 35-game on-base streak and has reached safely via a hit or walk in all but three games this season while carrying a .500 on-base percentage and a .688 slugging percentage.
• After being named to the ACC all-freshmen team last year, Otis went on to earn ACC Player of Week honors on three different occasions this season. This marks the first all-region honor for Otis.
Roby, a graduate senior from Mt. Washington, Ky., earns her third straight All-Region recognition. The right-handed pitcher/designated player leads the ACC and stands tied for second in the nation with a school record 22 home runs while tallying a league-best 56 RBIs this season. The three-time All-ACC honoree carries a .361 batting average and paces the team with an .829 slugging percentage and 31 Âwalks.
• In addition to her impressive offensive numbers, the two-way player also leads the team with a 2.42 ERA and has tallied 10 wins in the circle.
