
Cards Jump to 15th in Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville athletics department moved up to 15th in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division I standings after completion of the winter season.
Louisville totaled 295.80 points across its winter sports and is one of seven ACC schools ranked in the top 25, the most of any conference in the country. Louisville recorded 213.0 after the release of the fall standings.
During the winter, UofL accrued points in women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, and men's and women's track and field. The swimming teams combined for 143 points and the track and field squads totaled 79.8 points, with the women's basketball team finishing with 73 points.
The women's swimming and diving team secured their highest point total at the NCAA Championships in school history, scoring 288 points on the strength of five podium finishes and five first team All-American performances. Gabi Albiero recorded top-five finishes in two events, placing fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 100 butterfly, while Else Praasternik placed eighth in the 3-meter springboard to become the first Louisville diver in school history to earn an All-American distinction.
The men's swimming and diving team placed 13th in the nation at the NCAA Championships, as Denis Petrashov set a new school and ACC record in the 100 breaststroke to place third in the event and earn first team All-American honors. The Cardinals' 200-medley relay team also finished in the top eight as the foursome of Dalton Lowe, Petrashov, Abdelrahman El-Araby, and Michael Eastman placed seventh in the event where Lowe also set a new school record in the 50 backstroke on the leadoff leg.
The track and field teams also enjoyed tremendous success during the indoor season. The men placed 22nd nationally by earning their highest point total at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2007. Two Louisville men earned first team All-American honors at the national meet, as Trey Allen tied for third in the men's high jump and Cameron Miller finished fourth in the men's 200-meter run. The Cardinals also had two other athletes earn second team All-American honors as Sterling Warner-Savage placed 13th in the men's 60-meter run and Brion Stephens capped off his freshman indoor campaign with a 16th-place finish in the men's high jump.
The women's indoor track and field team tied for 43rd nationally after Synclair Savage earned first team All-American honors for the first time in her career in the women's long jump after placing seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Aliyah Welter also competed at the national meet in the women's pole vault, placing 10th and being recognized as a second team All-American.
The women's basketball team advanced to the Elite Eight for the fifth-straight tournament and eighth time overall before falling to Iowa 97-83. The Cardinals closed the year at 26-12 and 12-6 in the ACC.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
