Cardinals Bow Out of ACC Championship with Loss to Duke

CARY, N.C. -- The University of Louisville men's tennis team bows out of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship with a 4-0 loss to No. 12-ranked Duke.

The Cardinals dropped the doubles point to start the match. The No. 21-ranked Duke pair of Garrett Johns and Pedro Rodenas downed UofL's Etienne Donnet and Alex Wesbrooks 6-2 on court one. The Cardinals took court two with a 6-3 win by Sergio Hernandez and Natan Rodrigues. The point came down to the No. 3 slot and Duke's Faris Khan and Niroop Vallabhaneni edged Fabien Salle and Will Mayhew 7-6 (7-5).

Moving over to singles play, No. 72 Pedro Rodenas of Duke beat No. 34-ranked Etienne Donnet 6-3, 6-2. Louisville's Sergio Hernandez fell 6-3, 6-4 to No. 61-ranked Andrew Zhang on court four. The match was decided on court five where Louisvilles Andre Steinbach fell 6-1, 6-4.

The loss puts the No. 36-ranked Cardinals' record at 16-12 as they await an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship with the selection show to be announced May 1 on NCAA.com.
