Freshman catcher Sarah Gordon earns national weekly honors after taking home her first career ACC Player of the Week Award
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The weekly honors continue to add up for University of Louisville freshman catcher Sarah Gordon who was named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Player of the Week on March 21. She becomes the first NFCA National Player of the Week since May 1, 2018 when Megan Hensley earned the honor.
Â
The national award comes on the heels of earning her first career ACC Player of the Week honor on Tuesday. Last week, the freshman catcher led the Cardinals to a 3-1 record, including an ACC series sweep of Pittsburgh. The catcher from Lexington, S.C. went 9-for-12, batting .750 on the week with two home runs, three doubles, two walks, six runs and eight RBIs. She also registered a team-best 1.500 slugging percentage and .786 on-base percentage.
Â
Gordon delivered multiple hits in three of Louisville's four games last week including a 3-for-3 performance with a home run against Charlotte on Tuesday and a 3-for-4 showing with two doubles and a home run in the 5-4 series-clinching win against Pitt on Friday.
Â
She was productive in plate appearances, with at least one RBI in every game, with three in each of the final two games of the series against Pitt. On Friday, she drove in three runs to help Louisville secure the series with a 5-4 win. On Sunday, she sent the go-ahead run home with a two-run single in the fifth inning as Cardinals completed the sweep of the Panthers.
Â
The Cardinals (18-9) will travel to Richmond, Ky., for a midweek game at EKU Tuesday at 6 p.m. before returning to Ulmer Stadium to host NC State in a three-game ACC series this weekend.
