Cards and Wolverines head to Caryville, Tenn. to continue training
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville rowing team will head to Caryville, Tenn. March 3-4 to scrimmage with the University of Michigan as the Cardinals continue their training this spring.
Â
"We look forward to testing ourselves and rowing our race while competing along side a solid program," said Derek Copeland, UofL head coach.
Â
The Cardinals will train with Michigan near Knoxville, Tenn. and will scrimmage the Wolverines on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. In the morning session, the Cards will stroke a 7,000M head race and then compete in a time trial-type race. All boats from both teams will compete. Although weather and water conditions may impact the initial plan, the two teams will practice race pieces in 20-minute segments structured in a style closest to the 2000M race. That distance closely resembles the erg pieces that the Cardinals have been focused on since the fall.
Â
In the second session, the two teams will compete in short race pieces, focusing on the start portions of the race. The 500M sprint are designed to allow the athletes to focus everything it takes to launch, warmup, get to the start line and start the race.
Â
"This is a great opportunity to practice an oftentimes stressful portion of race day," said Copeland.
