
Louisville Ranked Fourth in Capital One Cup Women's Team Standings

UofL's 2022 fall season was highlighted by the volleyball team's NCAA runner-up finish
After an impressive 2022 fall semester, the University of Louisville Athletic Department is currently ranked fourth in the Capital One Cup women's team standings.
The Cardinals earned a total of 36 points to stand in fourth place while North Carolina leads the way with 62 points followed by Texas and UCLA who are tied for second with 60 points each. Along with North Carolina, Louisville is one of six ACC programs in the top 10. Florida State is tied for sixth with 30 points and Pittsburgh (24 points), Notre Dame (22 points) and NC State (20 points) round out the top 10.
The rankings are based on a combination of championship results, national rankings and coaches' polls for all NCAA-sponsored sports including: field hockey, cross country, skiing, track and field, rifle, swimming and diving, ice hockey, fencing, bowling, water polo, tennis, golf, rowing, soccer, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, beach volleyball, lacrosse and softball.
After tracking points throughout the year, the winners will be announced after the NCAA spring championships at the ESPY awards. The winning Division I men's and women's programs will receive a total of $500,000 in scholarship donations and the Capital One Cup trophy.
Louisville's fall success was keyed by the volleyball team's historic season which culminated in an NCAA runner-up finish. The second-ranked Cardinals (31-3) earned the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA championship and advanced to their second-straight Final Four. After beating Pittsburgh in the semifinals, Louisville became the first-ever ACC team to reach the national title match before falling to top-seeded Texas.
The Cardinals were well-represented among the league's top honorees. In addition to Dani Busboom Kelly's third straight ACC Coach of the Year award, a trio of Louisville players also took home major awards: Claire Chaussee was named ACC Player of the Year, Raquel Lazaro was voted ACC Setter of the Year and libero Elena Scott was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
The Cards placed four players on the AVCA All-American Team with Chaussee being named an AVCA first team All-American. She was joined by All-American teammates Scott, who earned second team honors, Amaya Tillman, who was a third team selection and Lazaro, who was an honorable mention.
The UofL field hockey team registered a 12-8 overall record after earning its fourth-straight NCAA tournament bid. The Cardinals were ranked No. 12 in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll after spending the entire season in the top 15 and reaching as high as No. 4 in the 2022 campaign. Following the season, Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb earned NFHCA All-America honors, marking the eighth straight year the Cardinals have placed at least two players on the All-America teams, a streak which dates back to the 2015 season.
The women's cross country squad was led by a pair of transfers in senior Madeline Castleberry and sophomore Sydney Partyka. Castleberry was the first Cardinal through the line in five of the six meets this fall, while Partyka finished in the team's top two in all six competitions.
The Cardinals' women's soccer team posted six wins in the fall, including a 3-2 win over #23 Memphis. They had 15 newcomers on the squad and over half of them saw the field the season. Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes notched win No. 200 in the 1-0 road win over NC State. She is the winningest coach all-time in program history.
