University of Louisville goalkeeper Sasha Elliott was named the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Division I Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14.
Â
The graduate student who was also named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week posted a 0.50 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage, surrendering only one goal in two games to help the Cardinals improve to 6-0 on the season.
Â
In Louisville's home opener against JMU, Elliott collected three saves en route to her first shutout of the season. She followed that performance with six saves in the 2-1 win over then-No. 4 Michigan. In Sunday's win, Elliott kept the Wolverines off of the scoreboard when she stopped a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter and later keyed a defensive stand with a crucial save as the Wolverines drew three penalty corners in the final minute of the game.
Â
Elliott (6-0) now carries a 0.83 goals against average and an .868 save percentage on the season.
Â
The Cards will return to action on Friday when they open Atlantic Coast Conference play against No. 2 North Carolina at 3 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Louisville also play host to Fairfield Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will air on ACC Network Extra.Â
