Women's Golf Opens Fall Season at Cougar Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's golf team will begin its fall season at the Cougar Classic this week (Sept. 12-13). The tournament will take place in Charleston, S.C. at the Yeamans Hall Golf Course (par 71, 6,269 yards).
The Cardinals will travel five student-athletes, all of which are returning from last year's roster. Sophomore Carmen Griffiths, graduate student Mairead Martin, junior Carly Haines, sophomore Gabbi Bentancourt, and junior Molly Lyne will all be traveling in their season-opening tournament.
The Cougar Classic, hosted by College of Charleston, will install a shotgun format, with 36 holes scheduled on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET and the remaining 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 8:45 a.m. ET.
The competition will consist of 14 teams, four of which are ranked: College of Charleston, UCF, Clemson, East Carolina, No. 6/9 Florida State, Furman, No. 19/23 Georgia, No. 25/21 Kentucky, Illinois, Louisville, Miami, NR/No. 22 Ole Miss, Penn State and Wisconsin.
The Cardinals saw last year's season end at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, in which they placed 7th overall. Individually, Kendall Griffin and Mairead Martin each tied for 17th overall after shooting a 4-over-par 220. Martin carded a final round 76 to fall six places and into a tie with Griffin. Carmen Griffith tied for 37th overall and Gabbi Bentancourt finished in a tie for 60th.
